Maximising the less important things - smartphone edition

The new smartphones seem hellbent on maximising screen size and resolution, processing power and headline catching high tech features. It would make a lot more sense if they extended battery life and maybe added a second SIM slot to use for data when travelling. Android phones would do well with some great games, too.

I agree. Samsung SIII is too big for 1 thumb reach and navigation. It requires shifting in hand. This is contrast with iphone that has grown longer and narrower. Samsung phone also has curved back, which means it slips and falls. Samsung has been clever in creating "perceived demand" for for features that appear to be really cool, but are a distraction from core use case. This happens regularly in mature markets where vendors distract users by bells and whistles. A classic example is a Cadillac car; it has great air con but is unreliable.
